FFF’s OPEN DOOR is Albania’s official OSCAR CANDIDATE!

We are so proud to share that Albania has chosen OPEN DOOR as the official candidate for the 93rd Academy Awards.
Florenc Papas’ directorial debut Open Door is the second completed film of Goethe-Institut’s FIRST FILMS FIRST training program.
In an article showcasing the Oscar candidates of each country, Screen Daily writes: ‘‘Papas scores an Oscar entry for his country with his feature film debut, shot in Albania, Kosovo, Italy, and the Republic of Macedonia in 2018. Open Door follows a married Albanian mother and her pregnant sister who try to find a man to play the part of the sister’s husband before they meet up with their strict, traditional father.’’
The film premiered at Sarajevo Film Festival main competition and visited numerous international festivals.
In a review for OPEN DOOR, Screen Daily highlighted “strong performances… beautifully observed moments. The result is an effective, economically told story of modern women negotiating the minefield of a deeply traditional society.“
At the same time, Cineuropa praised “strong concept” and “excellent performances”.
Good luck in the Oscar race to Florenc and his crew!
