More exciting news! The shooting of the Goethe-Institut’s FIRST FILMS FIRST project RIDERS by Dominik Mencej has begun in Croatia.
The film follows two best friends, Tomaž and Anton, who are both in their mid-twenties and living in a small Slovenian village. After watching Easy Rider, they redesign their mopeds to make them look like choppers and embark on an adventurous journey: Anton wants to impress his girlfriend who is studying in the capital and has not written to him in months, while Tomaž searches for spiritual answers to his visions, hoping that faith will guide him. But surprises wait for both of them on the road.
“Freedom is something everybody understands, but no one can explain” quotes the director. “Each of us finds their own way to freedom. I have always been fascinated by how an individual created his or her own identity and a way of life. There are many factors that influence that, and the most important ones are events in our lives that make us what we are, and decisions in given moments, even if they are made completely subconsciously. Thus the film introduces characters who want to be free and want to get out of the molds of this world.”
Lead cast includes Petja Labović, Timon Šturbej, Anja Novak, and famous Serbian actor Nikola Kojo.
The film is produced by Miha Černec of Staragara production company from Slovenia and co-produced by Antitalent from Croatia, Novi film from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sense Production from Serbia.
The project has been financially supported by the Slovenian Film Centre, Viba Film, Creative Europe – Media, RTV Slovenija, Film Centre Serbia, Foundation for Cinematography Sarajevo and RE-ACT.
The shooting is scheduled to conclude by July 2019, while the film is to be finished by April 2020.
Director Dominik Mencej and scriptwriter Boris Grgurović have been intensively developing the project in the frame of the first edition of the Goethe-Institut’s FIRST FILMS FIRST. More about the project you can find at: http://localhost:8888/dominik-mencej/
